Buying Baby Boy Clothes

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Some mom’s will tell you that the only regret they have about having a son is that baby boy clothes are not as much fun as baby girl clothes can be. This is mostly because as women we know what we like and we may see a lot of things that we would have worn on our own and that we think are cute. Boys clothes are not as much fun, but that does not mean you are not going to love dressing your son as he grows. In fact, you may find some pleasure in the simplicity of boys vs girls clothing as they age and your shopping trips will be a lot easier.

One thing about baby boy clothes to remember is that they do not have to be blue, but there is a good reason why so many of these items have at least some blue on them. Babies are cute when they are born no matter what sex they are, and at times it is nearly impossible to tell if a baby is a boy or a girl when they are under one year of age. This is even harder when they are newborns. The blue in the baby boy clothes can help someone to tell the difference, though some people still ask about the sex even when the baby is dressed head to toe in blue.

Baby boy clothes can also come in other colors other than blues. Some of today’s newest designs for baby boys come in blue and various shades of brown. They also have some that have greens, yellows, and reds as well. All of these colors are great for baby boy clothes and for the accessories for baby that you find in your home as well. You can actually use just about any color you want for your son, but remember that dressing them in pink or pastel color combinations may let other assume your son is a girl. You can get a pink shirt that says ‘I am a boy’ and they are still going to be confused.

Do not think that baby boy clothes are boring just because of the blue theme. You can find many cute things to put on them that are going to be as much fun as the dresses and other cute items you may get for a baby girl. You can find miniature suits and other items much like their dad may wear on occasion and they are going to look adorable in those things. Don’t like suits? Find them a dress shirt and a mini tie for your next party if they are going to go with you. No only do they look good, everyone will love seeing your little man in his new duds.

If you are not sure what to get when you want to buy baby boy clothes for someone – do them a favor and ask. Every set of parents seems to get too much of one thing and not enough of another, though those things vary. Some parents end up with too many sleepers but no one thought to get him the warmer daytime clothes he may need because he was born during the winter months. Parents understand that people want to get baby boy clothes for their little one, and they will be happy to tell you what they do and do not need.

Why Baby Bjorn Carriers Are the Best

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

I gave birth to my second child a few months ago, and it’s amazing to see how different things are this time around. I’m a lot more confident in my parenting abilities and I pretty much know what to expect, so I haven’t experienced any of the nervousness or anxiety that I felt with my firstborn. Plus, I already have everything I need to welcome a newborn into my home, including all the nursery furniture, bottles, cloth diapers, stroller, and of course one of those Baby Bjorn carriers that are so popular these days.

I absolutely love the two Baby Bjorn carriers that I have! I got them both as gifts, which was lucky because I probably wouldn’t have discovered these products on my own. I have the Original model, as well as the Active one, and both are absolutely necessary for my lifestyle. Original Baby Bjorn carriers are known for their comfort and style. They allow you to carry your precious little one snugly and securely, thereby freeing your hands to make daily tasks such as shopping or straightening up around the house as easy as possible. And the stylish design and cool color combinations are suitable for both moms and dads, which is a refreshing change from manufacturers that produce only hot pinks and pastels that men wouldn’t be caught dead wearing!

The Active Baby Bjorn carriers are a bit different from the Original version. These are specifically designed for longer use, such as a day out at the zoo or at the mall. They feature sturdier construction than the Original models, have a unique lumbar support system, and extra-wide, adjustable shoulder straps that help distribute baby’s weight evenly and reduce stress on your shoulders, neck, and back. There really is a significant difference between these two types of Baby Bjorn carriers, which is why I need both.

The only drawback to Baby Bjorn carriers compared to similar products is the price. Baby Bjorn carriers are much more expensive, which can be a deterrent to many budget-conscious parents. This is understandable, but believe me, the extra money is worth it because you’re really getting a quality product in return. I’ve tried a carrier or two from other brands, and there is a noticeable difference in comfort level and ease of use. These might seem like small issues now, but you’ll appreciate the quality after a few hours on your feet.

New parents take note: no other brand beats Baby Bjorn carriers in terms of comfort, style, design, and support. Once you experience a day with your precious child in this carrier, you’ll never want to switch to anything else. Yes, they’re pricier than some of the alternatives out there, but you can just search online for specials deals and discounts. It’ll definitely be worth your time to do this!

What’s the Deal with AGV Antivirus?

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

It’s a big question, and is one that needs answering. AGV antivirus is one of the largest and most popular programs on the internet when it comes to virus protection. The program itself is a schedule based system scanner, that looks for traces of virus’s, Trojans, hijackers and all other persistent little creepy attack programs that run rampant through the internet to upset the unwary and that can ruin both your day and your computer. This is where having a program like AVG on your system comes in to block these troublemakers access to your system, and to protect you from them.

Like every other company known to man, however, AVG antivirus aren’t an altruistic company, they are in it to make money, and so they have different levels of protection available for you, with different cost levels as well. Most people know it for its basic download and coverage; however, that’s exactly what the free download is – basic. You have no in-depth protection – no firewall, no root-kit protection and a stream of others are all unprotected with the free download, so it can indeed become a costly exercise to have AVG antivirus on your PC. The main thing to remember is that the basic coverage does give you some protection.

Currently, however, AVG antivirus is offering what it calls its ‘trial pay’ program, whereby if you sign up for a trial of their limited number of partners, you can download the latest and greatest version for free, once you’ve committed to the trial, which isn’t usually free at all, but with a little time awareness you can indeed sign up for a trial offer and download it for free, remembering what’s needed to be done about that trial offer itself. When the time comes and after you have your free download of the program.

So, is it worth it? Well, yes it is. Having only this as the coverage on one of my PC’s, I’ve had no major infections in 3 years (touch wood) on that PC, of any kind. Yes, I update daily and Yes, I scan daily (you can schedule these in for the times you want them to happen at), after each update so the AVG antvirus programs themselves seem to work admirably. So go ahead and get yourself the latest version for free using the trial program they have now, as it does work!

Authentic pirate costumes for Halloween 2009

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Authentic pirate costumes aren’t that hard to put together if you do a little research. Pirates have well known tropes that I’ll list for you here.

First, you need the correct hat. This is typically going to be a tricorne, or three-cornered, black hat. The traditional hats of pirates in the movies, it is the first piece for authentic pirate costumes of all types. On that hat itself should be an image of a skull and crossbones, or The Jolly Roger as it’s known. Wikipedia gives the history of The Jolly Roger here:

The name Jolly Roger goes back at least to Charles Johnson’s A General History of the Pyrates, published in 1724.

Johnson specifically cites two pirates as having named their flag Jolly Roger: Bartholomew Roberts in June, 1721 and Francis Spriggs in December 1723. While Spriggs and Roberts used the same name for their flags, their flag designs were quite different, suggesting that already Jolly Roger was a generic term for black pirate flags rather than a name for any single specific design. Neither Spriggs’ nor Roberts’ Jolly Roger consisted of a skull and crossbones.

Richard Hawkins, captured by pirates in 1724, reported that the pirates had a black flag bearing the figure of a skeleton stabbing a heart with a spear, which they named Jolly Roger.

Despite this tale, it is assumed by most that the name Jolly Roger comes from the French words jolie rouge, meaning pretty red. During the Elizabethan era Roger was a slang term for beggars and vagrants who pretended scholarship and was also applied to privateers who operated in the English Channel. Sea Beggars had been a popular name for Dutch privateers since the 16th century. Another theory states that Jolly Roger is an English corruption of Ali Raja, the name of a Tamil pirate. Yet another theory is that it was taken from a nickname for the devil, Old Roger. The jolly appellation may be derived from the apparent grin of a skull. Theories that the epithet comes from the names of various pirates, such as Woodes Rogers, are generally discredited.

So you can see why the Jolly Roger is such an important part of authentic pirate costumes.

Also required in real authentic pirate costumes are such accoutrements as a flintlock pistol, a hook for a hand, a pegleg and a parrot. And if you can grow one (or buy one from a costume shop), a handlebar moustache can go a long way to completing the look.

Wannabe a pirate for Halloween?

Tips for boys and girls on creating an authentic pirate costume

When the pirates of Bluebeard’s time weren’t gathering booty from His or Her Majesty’s ships, plundering riches from every nation’s fleet, they were flaunting their riches and making merry in Caribbean seaports where other nations dared not intrude. The pirates dressed in a manner reflecting their disdain for the ordinary law-abiding people, making law as they went along, frequently stealing from one another as possible and getting into sword fights, sometimes losing eyes and even legs in these battles. When piracy was finally – for the most part – brought to an ignominious end, over a couple of centuries, the less admirable qualities of pirates faded in memory, to be replaced with a sort of romanticism of colorful, adventurous individuals which still lives on today. Halloween is the perfect occasion on which kids can dress up in an authentic pirate costume.

While in reality, female pirates were scarce, on Halloween, there’s plenty of room in the neighborhood for girls in female pirate costumes to share in the romantic thrills.

All real pirates were splashy dressers, men and women alike. First, we’ll cover the elements that both boy’s and girl’s authentic pirate costumes have in common: The tri-cornered hat, typically black, always carried the insignia of the crossbones and skull. Men’s hats were usually much plainer than the women’s, decorated with a long feather – or two, but absent the rows of fancy laces and ribbons with which the women embellished their hats. The ordinary pirate crew members sported scarves and bandannas, instead of hats, deferring to the Captain and his ‘officers’.

All you boys and girls need a sword and a pair of swashbuckling boots. Feel free to enhance that plastic sword with a row of jewels, fastened with a little glue. The flashier the better!

Now, for some of the subtler differences between girl’s and boy’s authentic pirate costumes: boys need an eye patch, demonstrating their experience in battles at sea.

If you’re a girl, every authentic pirate costume should show that feminine side – lots of lace, brighter colors, striped off the shoulder tees, fancy jeweled belts and more elaborate hats and jackets, heavy on the lace and decorative accessories. By all means, add plenty of bangles, necklaces and outrageous earrings!

Pirate men generally dressed in a simple tunic shirt, left hanging outside long breeches, with a simply cut vest, affording freedom of movement on the high seas. Female pirates wore more tightly fitting garments, designed to show off a shapely figure. A fitted bodice and vest replaces the man’s loose tunic shirt and simply cut vest.

The authentic pirate costume can be a very inexpensive proposition for a great Halloween costume that makes you stand out in the crowd. Shiver me timbers!

Don’t Know what to put on your Astronaut Costume?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

The spacesuit of astronauts protects them from harsh environments. Because of the dangers in space and the lack of air molecules, astronauts face countless dangers some of which they may not even be aware of. Apart from those external dangers, the astronaut also has to struggle with the body’s effects as a result of lack of gravity and air pressure. All of these discomforts, most of which if not given the needed attention can prove fatal, have to be compensated by use of the space suit. The space suit is invaluable to an astronaut. When making an astronaut costume, you want it to reflect the feel and look of the real-life suit.

Of course, you do not have to worry if your space suit will be able to support life in lifeless environments. But you of course want it to have the same feel for the wearer and possibly some cool effects and add-ons that will make it as realistic as possible. One of the ways you can make your astronaut costume look really real is by having patches of ‘NASA’ all over giving it that authentic appearance. How about the helmet? Try using a plastic pumpkin and have it sprayed with a white color. Another important element of a space suit is the air tanks. Astronauts need compressed air in order to survive in environments that have no atmosphere.

How do you create an air tank replica in your astronaut costume? Take 2 empty 2-liter bottles and then using duct tape, tape them together. You can then spray silver spray to make them look like part of the entire costume. How will they be attached to the back of the space suit? The best way is to have the 2 bottles (air tanks) strapped to the back of the suit using straps. That way it will give the look of a backpack of air tanks and will make the suit look more believable. Do not forget to put some ‘NASA’ patches on the air tanks too.

The astronaut costume will not be complete without appropriate footwear. Since the astronauts footwear look like rain boots, you can use whatever old rain boots that are lying around and color them in, say orange. Ensure that the boots are of the right height and are fitting well. You do not want to have an astronaut falling over on the Martian surface while he should be doing explorations. With some imagination it will not be hard to figure out what you can do with an astronaut costume.

Art is Just a Click Away

Friday, October 30th, 2009

As the internet evolves, it continues to bring new ways and innovative ideas into areas that were often not seen as plausible to be incorporated into the online medium. For example, art lovers have now come to embrace online art stores that offer them virtual art galleries. These galleries would have remained inaccessible to many art lovers in their lifetime. However, the creation of art stores online and many online art networks, interest in art has once again picked up and creativity on the part of artists has also been enhanced. Some of these sites have literally transformed the art scene and their efforts should be applauded.

Online art stores and art networks have overcome the hurdle of limited resources and financial limitations for many artists and art lovers and by thinking in business terms, there has been a renewed interest in art from local art communities, new supporters, artists and an expanding global art network. Many art-related sites have sprung up and many bring a comprehensive approach to the art world by promoting interactive contributions from people around the world. Some sites offer some kind of an art portal where they offer art information from cities across the globe. They may include searchable features that allow users to view exhibitions, gallery openings and a host of other features that prove a handy guide to visitors visiting art museums and art galleries in their travels.

Online art stores are also known to offer virtual exhibition of works from contemporary artists. Some sites allow artists to open their own galleries and add events and openings of their art work exhibitions. Some sites go beyond the whole concept of art galleries and include blogs here an artist gives insight into his works and others can also post their comments. Visitors can also get to purchase or download works of art, music and photography. It’s a whole new world, not only for artists but for visitors as well.

It is exciting and amazing to see how the internet has changed the way people view art. Taking art to a whole new level, art stores and art networks have inspired collaboration and creativity among artists and we can only imagine what will develop. In the meantime, you can appreciate art by visiting online art stores and art networks where you can see, read and post your thoughts and inspirations.

Durable and Stylish Army Watches

Friday, October 30th, 2009

I don’t really care much about fashion at all, and rarely buy any kind of accessories. In fact, the only accessory that I regularly put on is a watch — and that’s only if it can do more than simply tell time. Hey, I figure as long as I’m spending money on something like this and am going to use it every day, it should serve a legitimate purpose, right? My cell phone can tell me what time it is, so I actually expect more from my wristwatch, if that makes sense. That’s probably why I like military style Army watches so much.

I’m not talking about Swiss Army watches here. Those are made by the famous knife manufacturer and are geared towards the fashionable crowd rather than people who want a rugged timepiece. Instead, I’m talking about what men and women in the armed forces would actually wear while on active duty. Those kinds of Army watches are far more durable than anything you’d find at a jewelry store, and they happen to look very cool too. That’s a combination that I can get behind.

There are lots of different kinds of military and Army watches available. For instance, there’s a Navy SEALs line that put ordinary diving timepieces to shame. Along with a chronometer that can measure hundreds of meters deep and finely tooled parts that can withstand water pressure at those depths, the famous SEALs Luminox watch features a self-contained illumination system that doesn’t need to be charged by an external light source. This means your dial illuminates in darkened conditions for as long as necessary — all without requiring so much as the push of a button to work. This hands-free operation is sure to come in handy as well, since you never know what kind of situations you’ll end up in.

I’ve come across a bunch of other terrific military and Army watches while shopping online. I looked at a pilot’s watch that had a nifty circular slide rule on it. This could be used for a bunch of different calculations and conversions, which are useful for pilots in the cockpit. I know they have on-board computers to handle most calculations, but again, you never know what could happen. It’s better to always be prepared, right? And from some of the reviews I’ve read, real pilots actually appreciate this so-called whiz wheel, so who am I to argue?

As for me, I went with one of the more conventional Army watches that don’t quite have the fancy features I mentioned above, but are durable, reliable, and good-looking. I am very happy with this particular wristwatch, and am even thinking about adding another one to my growing collection. Maybe I’ll even go for something a bit more exotic next time!

Arabian costumes for the halloween season

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Arabian costumes have become fairly popular halloween costumes in recent years as the world has become smaller and globalization has become more of a reality in the day to day life of all people. The west, as a society, is far removed from the days when Arabs were far removed themselves. There’s a general understanding that we’re all on this planet together for better or for worse, and since we’ve become closer (relatively speaking), we’ve also become more aware of each other’s characteristics.

And as is always the case in these situations, proximity breeds uneasiness. And uneasiness breeds pretty great Halloween costumes.

Me personally, I’m twenty-five percent arab, so I figure I have more of a claim on making mocking – lovingly mocking or otherwise – arabian costumes than most other people. Whether it be wearing the robes of a caliph of a certain Arabian tribe, or a 7-11 sweatshirt and a makeshift turban, there are many, many directions to go with your own costume choices.

Of course, most arabs today don’t ride cames and run around the desert like Omar Shariff in Lawrence of Arabia, a truly great film and one that examines the roots the Arabic coalescence around the House of Saud in the early part of the last century. Times have changed, as much for them over there as for us over here, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of the stereotypes when coming up with a list of arabian costumes that would work best for you.

So find some robes (but you’ll probably want to make sure they don’t look like KKK robes… that’s a faux pas that is damn near unforgiveable to any number of groups, including but not limited to Arabs themselves), find a turban or other headgear, and get to work. Good props to fill out the costume include a sarazen sword – not a real one, you can get arrested for having that – and maybe a stuffed or cardboard camel. To me, that sounds like the type of costume most people can get into, plus there’s the added benefit of getting to call the people around you infidels and declaring jihad if the rum punch is too weak.

Just remember to know your audience. Some stereotypes can be funny when amongst the right group of people, but those same stereotypes can be hurtful if pushed too far or brought into the open.

A Guide to Aquarium Care

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Personally, I’m not a pet owner per se. I have a deep love for fish, however, and I think that they make the perfect pets. No walking, no litter boxes. The only detriment to owning fish seems to be the excessive and intensive aquarium care involved. But let me tell you, daily aquarium care can be so simple and easy that you could probably prefer all the necessary aquarium care each day in about the time it takes to read this article. Aquarium care has never been easier.

Maintaining the water levels is the most intensive part of aquarium care. Having a proper filter goes along way to keeping the aquatic environment clean and fresh for your finned friends. In addition, proper air pumps help keep the oxygen levels in the water up so that your fish have plenty of air to breathe. This equipment is designed to need minimal care and generally speaking, you’ll notice when they’re not working by cloudy or dirty water. As you do your daily feedings (more on this in a second), you should take a glance at the temperature of the water. Aquarium care is usually about maintain a consistency so make sure that the thermometer doesn’t vary often or at all throughout the day.

Lighting usually isn’t necessary unless you have some water plants in your aquarium. Care for the fish as far as the light goes is usually sufficient through natural or regular room lights. In fact, too much light will increase algae growth. Too much algae will cause lots of problems so make sure that even if you do have a light for your plants you aren’t too generous with the amount of light given.

Speaking of being too generous, the biggest mistake that most novice fish owners make is that they overfeed their fish. Instead of giving a huge amount of food once every day or so. It is far better actually to feed your fish a small amount of food 10 times a day than a huge amount every three days. That said, the best feed cycle is usually two or three times a day for only a minute or two of feeding time. Proper feeding cycles will diminsh all of the uneated food which can cause more aquarium care problems than excess light.

Having a tank full of fish is one of the best pet ownership relationships out there. Aquarium care only takes a few minutes each day, and isn’t very much work. Just a little constant attention for a few minutes several times a day will make sure that your aquarium is beautiful and your fish are very happy!
