Bad Credit History

Friday, August 20th, 2010

So many people these days have some sort of credit problem; it’s kind of like a statement of living – where it’s more the rule than the exception. Mortgage crash, economic decline, credit shortcomings, all these are bruising factors to someone’s credit score, but we all have to continue living and for most that means coping with a bad credit history. While it’s true that this can have negative effects on what you can or can’t do regarding credit, it’s not the end of the world, and shouldn’t be looked on as such.

Your credit score is composed of 3 main elements; what you have bought on credit in the past, how you approached that credit issue and how you have dealt with, and continue to deal with, those credit issues. Frankly it’s harder in today’s U.S. to get credit with no credit history than to get credit with a bad credit history, so it’s just not about how much you have on credit, it’s all about what you’ve done with it. For most of us this means paying off credit card bills and the like, while others have detrimental issues such as repo’s or mortgage defaults to deal with.

While the latter two items may sound like a death knell for your credit itself, that’s no longer true. By doing such simple things as reporting your current bill payments (like gas, electric, phone etc.) to the credit agencies themselves you can greatly increase your credit score without too much out of pocket expense, and they really do have a positive impact on your bad credit history.

So many people have these problems that it’s not too surprising that the government, in its wisdom, has also stepped up in order to protect all Americans with these problems. Simple things such as no longer requiring a 5 gap between previous bad credit history and the present regarding bankruptcy, no longer disallowing mortgage applications from those who have suffered repossessions and the like all make life a little easier for all of us to deal with.

It may not be much, but the truth is that there’s no longer a terrible stigma attached to having had a bad credit history, and with the way companies are being more willing to entertain people who have had those problems in the past, things are certainly looking for all and sundry for the future.

Tips for a Successful 1200 Calorie Diabetic Diet

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

My grandmother is diabetic. Her doctor would not only like her to reduce her daily blood sugar medication, he would also like her to loose weight. He’s decided to put her on a 1200 calorie diabetic diet.

Traditional 1200 calorie diets can be adapted to meet the needs of people like my grandmother who suffer from diabetes. With a few simple dietary considerations, a diabetic can safely and easily embark upon a 1200 calorie diet.

Obesity and diabetes are conditions that are particularly onerous when twinned. Those who are diabetic and suffer from obesity are often encouraged by their doctors to take off the pounds. A 1200 calorie diabetic diet is more often than not an appropriate solution.

Curiously enough, the diet does not make much of a departure from the standard 1200 calories diet. The participant is simply encouraged to seriously limit their sugar intake while staying at a consumption rate of 1200 calories. Each meal should consist of around four hundred calories.

The following are examples of the kind of foods that compose a four hundred calorie meal. If you can eat these types of meal plans three times a day, you should be able to follow a 1200 calorie diabetic diet.

Here is a list of things that should be considered when embarking upon such a program:

Watch your intake of sugars

Refined sugars should obviously be discouraged. However, fresh fruit eaten in small quantities eaten is encouraged. Keep in mind that sugar substitutes like Splenda may also be utilized.

Watch your intake of refined flour products

Refined flour products elevate blood sugar levels. Make certain that the limited amount of bread you do consume are whole grain as opposed to white breads.

Consider skim milk, whole grain cereals for breakfast or even whole grain muffins. For lunch: baked chicken, fish and ham in combination with a salad and some other vegetable. For dinner turkey, two to three kinds of vegetables (based on how heavy your lunch was), and a small whole wheat roll.

Keep in mind that small snacks are encouraged on 1200 calorie diets. Especially for those who suffer from diabetes. Small protein additions like various nuts and even low-calorie protein bars are encouraged.

Here are some other things to take into consideration

Substitutions and variety are often the key to sticking to any diet, especially a diabetic diet. Remember to vary your fruits, grapes in place of apples, or peaches in place of bananas. Use variety. Experiment. Make sure to avoid dried fruits on 1200 calorie diabetic diet, as they have a higher sugar content than fresh fruits.

1200 calorie diabetic diets are excellent promoters of both health and weight loss for diabetics needing to reduce and manage their weight. When followed according to your doctor’s recommendations, utilizing the same strict portion controls advocated in the standard 1200 calorie diet, the 1200 calorie diabetic diet is a safe and efficient diet for weight loss.

Wondering How To Block Spam?

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

Every single one of us would have to unanimously agree that the internet is a great invention. We get to go to places we might never have the opportunity to go to in life, we get to shop with a single simple click of a button, and we are lucky enough to have a universe’s worth of information right there at our finger tips for any question thought or query that may pop into our minds. Along with the internet, we have its clever and life changing brother – email. Communication has never been easy, and with email we have been brought back together with distant relatives, we can accomplish business with greater rapidity and we are all to make friends the world over! But something that great obviously is going to have its downfalls, and this downfall is an annoyance we are familiar with: SPAM. Those annoying, potentially harmful ads and forwards that inundate us daily whether we like it or not. Well fear not, today you are going to receive some guidance on home to block spam.

First things first when it comes to blocking spam forever from your email account. Most email hosts – like yahoo, gmail, hotmail, and even AOL – provide pretty strong SPAM filters automatically. Most even have SPAM folders. If you receive a piece of SPAM in your regular mail, all you have to do is mark its bock and indicate that it is SPAM. In most cases the SPAM itself will not only be immediately deleted but your email host can ‘learn’ from the indication you make which pieces of email you receive are legitimate and which are not. But how to block spam that keeps sneaking in?

You can boost your SPAM settings on your email itself, setting parameters and entering in words or phrases into your email server that you believe are consistent with SPAM emails you may receive. If you do this, you’ll find over time that you will receive less and less SPAM.

Finally there is a more proactive step you can take in the battle of how to block spam from your mailbox forever. Never give out your email address, when you are shopping do not click boxes accepting offers or mailings – these folks we shop from love to sell our information! If you really want the SPAM gone, most of the pieces of SPAM themselves have a teeny tiny box at the bottom that will give you an address to write to in order to stop receiving the messages altogether.

Work Smarter With an Ergonomic Computer Desk

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

I’ve been battling lower back, neck, and shoulder pain for the past few years. I’ve been to the chiropractor a bunch of times, and while I do feel better immediately after my treatments, the pains return just a few days later. I couldn’t figure out what was causing these problems, because I don’t play sports or do anything that might lead to this situation. It took a friend to point out the obvious: I sit hunched over a keyboard for 10 hours a day, which is why my muscles and joints ache so much. So now I’m shopping for an ergonomic computer desk to see if that makes a difference.

An ergonomic computer desk is different from typical office desks in a couple of important ways. First of all, it’s ergonomically designed to help you work more efficiently and comfortably. This is accomplished by putting frequently used components such as drawers, telephones, and keyboards in prominent locations that are easier to reach. The less twisting and turning you have to do, the better it is for your back and neck.

Second, an ergonomic computer desk has adjustable features that can be customized to suit your body. For instance, the chair can be raised or lowered to allow for proper alignment of your arms and wrists at the keyboard. Moreover, the monitor should be on some type of stand that can also be adjusted to a comfortable level to ensure that you’re neither looking too far up nor too far down, which can cause soreness and stiffness in your neck or shoulders.

I really think an ergonomic computer desk could help with my pain issues, so I’ve started comparing different desks to determine which one would be best for me. I’ve found several office furniture websites that offer a nice selection of these desks, and have been reading through all the features of each. Thanks to the detailed descriptions and clear photos, I’m sure I’ll be able to find a good ergonomic computer desk right online and have it delivered right to my door without having to waste time running around from store to store. And from the prices I’ve already seen, I’m sure I’ll be able to score a sweet deal on whatever I end up buying — an important consideration since I’m self-employed and will be footing the bill myself.

I’m not saying that an ergonomic computer desk will magically end all my pain problems, but it will probably go a long way towards helping me get through each workday more comfortably and efficiently. The first time I put together my workstation, I was only interested in saving money, so I bought the cheapest stuff I could get my hands on, never figuring that my decision would cost me in other ways. I won’t make that same mistake again!

You know how people are always singing in the shower? This seems to be a tradition amongst humans. Or at least amongst Americans anyway. It doesn’t really matter if they CAN sing or not. They simply step under the hot water, and suddenly they think their Brian McKnight or Celine Dion. It’s pretty funny actually. Surely you have some folks in your household that are like this. Maybe they never sing while in the living room, kitchen, or even their own bedroom, but once they step in that show, look out. All sorts of screeching and whaling begin to come out. Now, how do you suppose we can put an end to this atrocious sound? Ah ha, technology has come through once again with a shower clock radio. Just hang that baby over the shower head and listen to all the tunes you please. I promise you’ll get much less complaints form the neighbors, and your dog will stop howling as well.

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

So I have this teenager living in my home. It appears that singing in the shower is her favorite pastime. The girl can’t just take a quick, quit shower and move on. She has to get in there and scream at the top of her lungs. This is not so pleasant for the rest of the household, because singing is not her forte. The girl practically sounds like a dying cat. Sadly it doesn’t matter if it’s morning or night. She will bust out into song at either time of day. If others are going to bed, no biggy. People are still asleep because it’s 6am, no problem for her. She sings regardless. Finally I found a solution. It’s called the shower clock radio. Or actually the shower clock radio/CD player. This handy device does it all. And the great part is that she was stoked to get it. I told her to use it as an alternative to singing in the shower so loudly. She could now listen to the shower clock radio, but keep it at a reasonable volume. Ah, I love it when a plan comes together.

Need an awesome gift for your teenager, wife, husband, or friend? The shower clock radio is an awesome place to start. You can find these at Sharper Image for a reasonable cost. The play CDs and are completely water proof. You don’t have to worry about your CD player getting ruined or you getting electrocuted. Pick up one for your shower today.

Writing a Novel That Speaks

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

Writing a novel is many a person’s ambition. There’s something desirable about penning an original, heartfelt story that touches the lives of readers everywhere. Almost everyone has taken up writing at some point, whether it was in school, on blogs or in personal journals. Why is writing such a popular pastime? Maybe it’s because people like to talk about themselves and let their thoughts be known. In the case of personal journals, maybe people want to preserve their memories, or vent about some hardship that will seem trivial years from now, or leave something behind after they’re passed away. Whatever the motivation, writing remains a widespread method of expressing oneself.

It might be easy to write, but it’s not so easy to write something that people can identify with. If that’s not your goal, then writing a novel should be a piece of cake. But writing a novel that affects its readers and lasts for years to come takes talent, desire, time, and the materials.

Novels are fictional, but the feeling behind writing them isn’t. The setting, characters and elements of your novel are the means through which you convey that feeling. You shouldn’t write about something you don’t particularly care or know about, because it’ll show in the quality of your writing. On the flip side, you might not want to write something you care too much about, unless you can detach yourself from it enough so that you can look at it objectively. Writing fiction helps detach you somewhat, but your characters should be actors, not thinly-veiled representations of yourself.

The writing style of your novel should be one that you’re comfortable with. Don’t try to sound like someone else, or it won’t ring true. Novel writing is where you’re given leeway in terms of style, as opposed to writing like research papers where the format is specific. Everyone has different preferences of style, and you should stick to yours.

Above all, your novel has to tell a story. Unfortunately, many people get caught up in writing the details of what happened and mistakenly think that it constitutes a story, but it’s not. A story speaks to the reader, and finding that story is arguably the hardest part of writing a novel. It can be intimidating to try thinking of a story that hasn’t already been told and that people will care about. Many stories have been told over the course of existence, but none of them has been told your way, and you’re the only one who can do that. Being able to do that is what makes writing a novel a success.

Is a 1000 Calorie Diet Right For You?

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

With summer on the immediate horizon, lazy beach days are approaching with great rapidity and with all the other joys that summer brings with it – surf, sand, and ice cream cones – it also brings with it the stress over our bodies. Are we bathing suit ready? What is it going to take to make us so? Is one problem area? Toning, should we tone? After the initial panic subsides most of us wind up doing the exact same thing, spring after spring, year in and year out. We diet in the hopes of getting a body that everyone else on the beach will be completely envious of. The next course of action is finding the diet that is right for you. For some this means a life free of carbs, other stick to a liquid diet. But one of the most popular modes is watching what you eat, which means restricting your caloric intake. An extreme example of kicking your butt into a bikini? A 1000 calorie diet.

We all know from having eyed even in the passing the nutritional information found of the packages of nearly everything we consume that the “average” person should be eating a well-balanced diet comprised of 2000. When you take on a new change in diet like the 1000 calorie diet, you have got to be even more aware about what you are consuming to ensure that your body is getting everything it needs to keep it healthy and happy. This is not to say that a 1000 calorie diet is off limits for folks, not at all. In fact that 2000 calorie statistic you will find on those packages is a median of a the population, comprised of men, women and children all of whom have drastically different nutritional needs.

Women, being typically smaller in build than men, require fewer calories, so a 1000 calorie diet while dieting is not extreme at all, especially as a woman ages and her metabolism slows. 1000 calorie diet leaves plenty of room for all the essential nutrients the body needs to thrive, including fruits, vegetables, proteins, and the goodness of whole grains. If one is sure to include water in their 1000 calorie diet in addition to all the proper types of food, they will be sure to get a body that is beach ready in no time.

Best Way to Invest Money

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

Money is a delicate topic of conversation. It logically follows that so is investing. And here’s the truth about investment: no one knows anything. Of course they don’t. Truly knowing about investment in some sort of risk-proof way is only possible through knowing the future. And, despite what anyone tells you, despite whatever fancy mathematical formulas or decades of life experience somehow has, no one can predict the future accurately all of the time. And, as many people can tell you, being wrong just one time can undo a lifetime of work and effort. Therefore, the best way to invest money is simple: don’t. At least, not like that.

The other thing to watch out for, besides these “experts” who claim that they can predict and model the future, is experts with a secret. Anyone that claims that they have the best way to invest money, and it is a secret is trying to scam you; run away as fast as you can. How do I know this? Think about it: if you truly had a secret investment plan – the absolute best way to invest money – why would you tell anyone else? You don’t need to share it with people for it to continue making money, UNLESS, the simple fact of getting people to invest with you is the method of how you make money. This is how any schemer (most recently, Bernie Madoff) makes money. They claim to have the secret, the possession of information, the best way to invest money. They don’t. They simply know how to take your money.

So what is the best way to invest money? Simple, find the least amount of risk possible. Investing in a certificate of deposit is one of the ONLY ways you can guarantee that your investment will not lose money. Everything else is more or less fancy and legal gambling, and do not let anyone else tell you otherwise: there is no such thing as a sure thing.

That said, the best way to invest money is actually two-fold. Invest in no-risk banks that are FDIC insured to the amount you invest. The other thing to do is take a small amount of your investment capital, ten or fifteen percent, and invest them in the longest shots possible. You will probably lose money; that’s ok if you take the other ninety percent to no-risk investments. But if you don’t lose money… well, you’ll be doing fine.

Investing can be complicated business, that is why so many have someone else do it for them. This means that you have to pay them a fee, but if you don’t know anything about money, stocks, investments, and all of that fun stuff, you are going to make more if you have someone knowledgeable handling your portfolio management for you. The hard part might be finding someone you can trust, and someone who will listen to what you have to say.

Friday, August 13th, 2010

If you know how to handle your own portfolio management, you can save a lot of money by not paying fees to someone else. However, this can be hard to do if you have a diverse portfolio, and you have to spend a lot of time checking up each and every different stock you have. Even some who are knowledgeable about portfolio management have someone else doing it for that very reason. They feel the fee is reasonable because they don’t have to take a lot of time out of their day to worry about it.

One way many deal with portfolio management is to have a 401K that requires very little input from them. However, there are still come choices that the employee must make. Some will ask what money you want to go into what type of investment. Those starting out often have very little in their accounts, so they put it all into low risk. After the money adds up, they can then have some of that put into higher risk investments to see what will happen. With the case of the 401K they can be pretty hands off, but you should still know what is going on and where your money is going.

When choosing someone to handle your portfolio management, you should find someone who will listen to you and take your calls, and also someone who has a reasonable fee. If you try to call and it seems they never answer, and they rarely call you back in a timely manner, you might want to assume that they are just too busy to handle your portfolio management like they should be. Find someone who can answer when you call, at least at a reasonable frequency, and seems to give a hoot about what you think. After all, it is your money and your future. You have a right to have input and to know what is going on with it.

Finding Great Fifties Costumes

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Dressing up for Halloween is equal parts art, shopping and imagination. Luckily, with all of the costume shops online now, you can browse through thousands and thousands of Halloween costumes for ideas and inspiration without even leaving your house. Coming up with costume ideas are tricky, but there is one route you can go to get really great costumes that are unique, clever and original: period costumes. This year, I am looking at one such period idea in particular. I am looking at fifties costumes.

Fifties costumes offer a wealth of ideas and a variety of costumes for both men and women. When I approach period costumes, I like to start with simply that – what were people wearing in that period of time. Fifties costumes are a particularly fertile ground for modern costumes based on everyday clothing from the 50s.

If you want something else for fifties costumes, there are still plenty of ideas. The most common fifties costumes are, of course, the poodle-skirt for girls and the greaser look for guys. These include the great accessories, like saddle shoes and leather jackets. You can really invest a fair amount of time to elevate the costume to another level and really wow people. These have been popular fifties costumes for decades now, and very few Halloweens go by without seeing a handful of people using these costumes for themselves.

Personally, I like thinking of other choices for fifties costumes: specifically, celebrities. Two of the most popular celebrities happen to be fifties costumes: Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley. There are of course other celebrities from the fifties, including James Dean.

However, dressing up like celebrities can be difficult. My favorite idea for fifties costumes is to dress up like characters from famous movies either set in or shot during the 1950’s. This is a great way to go for the period look while still having a lot of fun. For instance, dressing up as Marlon Brando in On the Riverfront, is a good option instead of the daunting task of dressing up as a Marlon Brando.

Whichever way you might choose to approach fifties costumes, you should be in great shape. The whole part of Halloween is to have fun pretending to be someone else for just a couple of hours, and there is no shortage of great ideas for fifties costumes to help you do precisely that.
